We have decided to take a "babymoon" in July for 4 nights...our last hooooorah! before vacations change forever. It has been told to me that even when you travel and your kids are not with you, it isn't as relaxing, because now you have a little person/people/bean to worry about and miss while you are gone! So, one last worry free vacay is in the making! Sounds delightful, but not without stress! If we go anywhere that we would not be able to get to an 'emergency placement' (that is when you have to GO NOW and get your baby!) within 24 hours, we have to put a hold on placement until we return. Basically meaning they will not even show our profile book to birthmothers until we return. They WILL show them to pregnancy match situations, just not emergency, which is about 42% of placements.
What a double edged sword! First of all, then you have to be on hold for 5 days, which wouldn't be too bad! BUT...yep here is the but! the hotel we are going to says if you cancel within two weeks of your reservation you are charged a BIG ol amount. Basically you may as well give them your entire reservation dolllas! So we are left with the decision of putting emergency placements on hold for 3 weeks or risking that if we get called within those two weeks before, we eat the cost. I emailed my social worker (ME AGAIN!) asking what she advises. She didn't really advise. More said , "Personal choice! Some people don't care about the money lost and some can't afford it." I feel like we are in the can't afford it section. On the other hand 3 weeks on hold seems a lot! EEK! The 'faith' in me says, "Oh, just put it on hold, your meant to be baby will come when they are supposed to!" And the immediate satisfaction side of me says, "WOAH YOUR BABY COULD COME DURING THAT TIME AND IF YOU'RE GONE YOU MAY WAIT MONTHS AGAIN!" Notice who is louder. She dresses in cap-locks. I will join forces with the hubs tonight and see if his faith or immediate satisfaction person is louder.
Your 'poor' future mama who will be sippin mai tais on the ocean worrying about if she made the right choice putting placements on hold,
Bumpless Baby Mama
